“I still love to see pigment merging into canvas and watching it spread. Then adding colors to it as I go along. With the shapes and colors I arrange I try and leave some empty canvas because that’s the background. So, that’s a separate layer in my mind. And I like to see it work into the shapes. Some people think they’re watercolors but they’re acrylics.” – Dale Levy

DoN wondered about the materials the artist uses such as acrylic medium gels?
“No, it’s all liquid acrylics which have been diluted in water and poured onto unprimed canvas.”
DoN asked if Dale’s studio is messy?
“I do make a big mess, I’m sorry to say. Well, (laughing) sometimes it’s sort of distressing. Monday I have to go and clean up. That’s not my favorite part. But, no one is there, no one sees what kind of mess I make.”

How long have you been working with this theme?
“I’ve started painting into some of them like S-1. Aeolus this is totally oil painting. There’s nothing acrylic. It’s new and old, I used to do all oils and I haven’t done many for a while so it’s a new idea this time. And I don’t know what I’m going to do next. I have an empty canvas waiting for me.”
How do you come up with your titles?
“By staring at the painting and waiting for something to strike me. And it usually does. Sometimes I change my mind but the titles all grow out of the painting. I have a daughter-in-law who is also very creative, she’s a poet and often I’ll send her an image and ask for ideas.”
