The Moving Model Workshop

One Sunday, last Fall, Bob Jackson gave DoN a sheaf of papers and said maybe they would be good for something on the internet. This is unusual because Bob has no internet presence of his own, not even the Plastic Club’s website. A Luddite, he does have a flip-phone but doesn’t know how to use the functions. The reason he gave over the drawings is obvious, to promote the Moving Model Saturday morning drawing workshops at The Plastic Club. But, how to translate these croquis into some sort of web ready thing was the project. The moving model workshop features Stephanie, a model who moves slowly through a series of poses. The resulting drawings are lively and immediate as the artist quickly captures the moment with basic tools, important lines and symbols.

DoN used a high resolution scan, 1200 ppi, of all the drawings, created a series of jpgs, dragged them into iMovie, added titles and adjusted the Ken Burns effect with a cross dissolve transition. The drawings are now larger than life, in reality each figure study is about an inch high, the video with the high res scans plays full screen. The Moving Model movie attempts to capture the swiftness of the process, each slide is on the screen 3 seconds with a one second transition. Played at full screen you can actually see some of the crumbs and coffee on the paper. Sweet.
